NEW DELHI: The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings for 2024 were released by the Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan on August 12, 2024. In the 2024 rankings, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, retained its position within the top five across four major categories: Overall, University, Research Institutions, and Innovation.The IISc, established in 1909, has consistently excelled in various categories of the NIRF Rankings. The rankings are based on 5 well-defined parameters, including Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RPC), Graduation Outcome (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception (PER).
How IISc Bengaluru fared across NIRF 2024 ranking categories
Known for its advanced scientific and technological research, IISc Bengaluru achieved the 2nd rank in the Overall category, 1st rank in both University and Research Institutions categories, and 4th in Innovation. Its strong performance is further highlighted by impressive placement statistics, with graduates securing median salaries as high as Rs 30,00,000 per annum and a significant number of students opting for higher studies.

In the Overall category, IISc achieved scores of 83.6 for TLR, 86.5 for RPC, 82.17 for GO, 58.46 for OI, and 99.7 for PER.
In the University category, IISc maintained a consistent performance with scores of 83.6 in TLR, 86.5 in RP, 82.17 in GO, 58 in OI, and 99.79 in PER. Meanwhile, in the Research Institutions category, IISc excelled with impressive scores of 93.55 for TLR, 90.68 for RPC, 75.19 for GO, 59 for OI, and a perfect 100 in PER.
Placement and Higher Studies: The IISc Bengaluru, has demonstrated impressive placement and higher study outcomes in recent years. For the academic year 2021-22, the institute saw 98 students graduate within the minimum stipulated time, with 4 of them placed in various roles, securing a median salary of Rs 22,50,000. Additionally, 89 students opted for higher studies.
In the academic year 2022-23, 106 students graduated on time, with 4 securing placements, and a notable increase in the median salary to Rs 30,00,000. Furthermore, 96 students chose to pursue higher studies.

Since its inception, the NIRF has grown to include 16 categories and subject domains, providing a comprehensive evaluation of institutions across various fields of study.
