NEW DELHI: The Bar Council of India (BCI) has announced that the Certificate of Practice (COP) for candidates who passed the All India Bar Examination (AIBE-XVIII) has been dispatched to all State Bar Councils, with the exception of the Karnataka State Bar Council.
Candidates are advised to collect their COPs from their respective State Bar Councils at the earliest convenience.The BCI has urged all candidates to directly contact their State Bar Councils for any assistance or queries regarding the collection process.
However, candidates who fall under the jurisdiction of the Karnataka State Bar Council will need to wait a little longer. The BCI has stated that the COPs for these candidates will be released soon, and a separate notification will be issued once they are available.
The AIBE is a mandatory examination for law graduates in India, designed to assess their capability to practice law. Passing the AIBE entitles candidates to receive a Certificate of Practice, allowing them to practice as advocates across India.
Required Documents to Attach
When applying for the Certificate of Practice (COP) after passing the AIBE, candidates must attach the following documents: a copy of the AIBE result, academic qualification documents, three recent passport-size color photographs, and a valid caste certificate (for SC/ST applicants). Additional certificates, photographs, declarations, and documents specified in the application form must also be included. The application fee varies by state bar council and may change annually, so candidates should obtain the application form for the latest fee details.
