NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently announced the disaffiliation of 21 schools across Delhi and Rajasthan, with 16 of these schools located in Delhi. Additionally, six Delhi-based schools have been downgraded from Senior Secondary to Secondary level.
These actions followed a series of surprise inspections conducted by CBSE on September 3, aimed at assessing compliance with the Board’s Affiliation and Examination Bye-Laws, particularly in relation to student attendance.
In a notification released today, dated November 6, CBSE stated that the disaffiliations and downgrades were necessary to uphold educational standards and address widespread issues with attendance. According to CBSE, these institutions were found to have a concerning number of “dummy” or non-attending students in Classes 9 to 12, which compromises the integrity of the educational system and hinders the mission of providing holistic education.

The Board has issued Show Cause Notices to the affected schools, giving them a 30-day period to respond. The final status of these schools will be reassessed based on their responses. Detailed information and separate notices have been published on the CBSE website, emphasising the need for strict adherence to attendance norms.
