President Draupadi Murmu will felicitate the National Teachers’ Day Award 2024 to 82 selected teachers today, September 5 at Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi for honouring their commitment and dedication to the education sector.
In India, Teachers’ Day is celebrated on September 5, commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. On this occasion, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will honour 50 teachers with the National Teachers’ Award. The National Teachers’ Awards are conferred to acknowledge the contributions of teachers in uplifting the quality of education and promoting excellent learning experiences for students. The prestigious awards come with a certificate of merit, a cash prize of ₹50,000, and a silver medal. Additionally, the awardees will have the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Teachers to be Honored in Today’s Ceremony
This year, 50 teachers from 28 states, 3 Union Territories, and 6 organisations have been selected for the prestigious awards through a rigorous, transparent three-stage selection process that included district, state, and national levels. The awardees, comprising 34 male and 16 female teachers, include 2 differently-abled individuals and 1 teacher working with children with special needs (CWSN).
In addition to school teachers, 16 teachers from the Department of Higher Education and 16 from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will be conferred with this prestigious award. In 2023, two award categories were added to the list for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Polytechnics under the National Awards to Teachers (NAT), which was earlier limited to school teachers. The 16 teachers are selected from Polytechnics, State Universities, and Central Higher Education Institutions.
